Winifred H. Akin (Winnie) of Akin Road passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was 89.

Born in Cambridge, NY on August 13, 1934, daughter of the late Willett and Florence (Akin) Hunt. She is the widow of the late Richard F. Akin who passed away in 2019. They were married 65 years.

Winnie spent her entire life dedicated to taking care of her family. Family life on the farm was her passion.

She was a bus driver for Hoosic Valley Schools for many years, retiring in 1992. In her "retirement" Winnie worked at Rite Aid in Schaghticoke for several years.

Winnie was a lifelong and devoted member of Christ United Methodist Church in Johnsonville, where she was very active in many church activities her entire life. She loved singing in the church choir and working in the thrift shop.

Survivors include her sons, Richard W. (Sue) Akin, Howard J. (Kari) Akin, Glenn (late Kay) Akin and Dale (Kelly) Akin all of Johnsonville and Todd (Jean) Akin of Buskirk. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 10am-12noon at the Christ United Methodist Church, Johnsonville. A memorial service will be held at 12noon in the church. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke following the memorial service.
