Weir, William H. Schaghticoke
William H. Weir of Weir Road passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was 93.
Born October 21, 1918, in Halfmoon, son of the late Harold B. and Mary Alice (Ryan) Weir.
He is the husband of the late Joyce V. Weir who passed away in 2000 and the late Mary Elizabeth (McGhee) Weir who passed away in 1941.
Mr. Weir served in the United States Army from 1936-1939. From 1940-1941 he worked at G.E. Schenectady as a metal lathe operator, and then served in the Navy from 1942-1945. He was a lifelong farmer, working on the family farm, William Weir Farm and Sons in Schaghticoke and was a member of the Farm Bureau for several years.
Survivors include his children, Nancy (Edward) Cavallaro of Ballston Lake, Susan (late Edwin) Lewis of Pattersonville, Sally (Paul) Mormile of Mechanicville, Michael (Mary A.) Weir of Schaghticoke and David M. Weir of Schaghticoke. Also survived by several grandchildren and several great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Weir is predeceased by his siblings, Helen Foxvog, May Hansen, Robert, Alan, Donald and George Weir.
Memorial donations may be made to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Boulevard, Rensselaer, NY 12144-9309 or to the Margaret Doyle Day Break Program, 421 Columbia Street, Cohoes, NY 12047 in lieu of flowers.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-7pm on Tuesday, January 3, 2011 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. A memorial service will be conducted at 7pm at the funeral home with Pastor Clyde McCaskill officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Margaret Doyle Day Break for years of care and respite.
