Schaghticoke - Rensselaer County William J. "Bill" Popp of Main Street passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy. He was 86. Born in Watervliet on September 25, 1928, son of the late William and Helen (Vuyick) Popp. He is the beloved husband of Lois (Dixon) Popp. Bill retired from the Norton Company of Watervliet, where he worked as a tape splicer. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball. More recently, he liked playing darts and going for daily walks around the village. Survivors in addition to his wife of 58 years, Lois, include their loving children, William K. (Melissa) Popp of Melrose, Thomas R. (Lisa) Popp of Johnsonville and Debbie (Jimmy) Lucia of Schaghticoke, his siblings, Helen (late Ernie) Jurusik of Ohio, Barbara (late Doug) Anderson and Marjorie (late Herman) Shover, both of Watervliet. His grandchildren, Heather Bayly, Gregory Popp, Christina Popp, Jessica Hoag, Scott Popp, Shannon Popp, Steve Popp, Edward Zuzick and Brent Popp, five great grandchildren, Bryce, Alex, Rory, Charlotte and Ada. Relatives and friends may call from 4-7:00pm on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 10:00am in the funeral home with his friend Rev. Michael Crandall officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
