William "Grampy" Martin Mehan passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 86.

Born in Troy on February 11, 1937, son of Donald Mehan and Emma (Travers) Clark. He is the husband of the late Shirley (Gaudette) Mehan who passed away in 1992.

Bill served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1958. He went on to work for the Watervliet Arsenal and after retirement he worked for the former Alonzo Fireworks Company, now Santore's Fireworks. Bill was an active member of and held various offices for the Stillwater Fire Department, the Stillwater American Legion Post 490, FASNY, the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firefighters Association, the Hudson Mohawk Volunteer Firefighters Association, the Royal Order of Blue Vests, Night Hawks Firefighters Association and the Saratoga County Fire Officers Association. He was also a member of the USS Huse DE145 Association. Bill enjoyed playing Euchre at the American Legion Post 490 and at Lewis' Tavern in Schaghticoke. He loved spending time with his family and camping.

Bill is survived by his children, Rhonda (Bryan) Nyland of Halfmoon, William Mehan, Jeri (Susan) Mehan of Stillwater, Brenda (Frank) Larkin of Esperance, Lori Mehan of Cambridge, his grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Kevin (Nicole), Amber, Stacie (Don), Scott, and Felicia and 9 great grandchildren as well as by his sisters in law Geraldine Smith and Louise Patenaude. Also survived by his girlfriend Sue Rock of 20 years along with her children Darryl (Gabby) Rock and DJ (Christy) Rock, her grandchildren Kayla (Anthony) and Darryl, and her 2 great grandchildren and survived by several nieces and nephews and those to whom he was known as "Grampy".

He is predeceased by his brothers Donald Mehan and Joseph Mehan.

Calling hours will be from 4-8:00pm on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Ave., Stillwater. Firematic funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11am in the funeral home with burial in Stillwater Union Cemetery with military honors.
