William J. Benson, III, of Turner Road, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 65. Born on October 17, 1955 in Watertown, son of William J. and Doris M. (Sarle) Benson, Jr. He is the husband of Mary J. Gorsky whom he married on January 19, 1980. Bill was a very active and hardworking person and enjoyed being outdoors. Dedicated to his faith, family and business, he volunteered often at Spa Christian and Loudonville Christian School and at church for their Lenten Lunches. He was active in Mentors and Moms through 4-H and was deeply involved in his church and was a part of mens and mixed Bible study groups. Fueled by Stewarts coffee, there was nothing he couldnt accomplish as a contractor at WJB Contractors, Inc., work he thoroughly loved. He was a member of Grace Chapel in Clifton Park and Stillwater Christian Fellowship in Stillwater. He also played basketball at Faith Baptist Church and bowled in Stillwaters Mens league. He loved being with his family and especially enjoyed vacationing with them in favorite places like the Cape and Old Orchard Beach. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with each of his adoring granddaughters and just being silly with them which was evident with his dad jokes and his eagerness to share them. Instead of a traditional birthday cake each year, his wife Mary would always make him a birthday apple pie something he looked forward to every year. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife Mary J. Benson of Stillwater include his loving daughters: Tara (Paul) Byrne and their daughters Mya and Audrey of Niskayuna and Jamie Benson and her daughter Briana of Stillwater, his brother, Austin (Kathy) Benson of VA, his sister Roberta Stanczak of FL, his brother-in-law Thomas Gorsky and sister-in-law Janet Gorsky. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues who thought the world of him. He is predeceased by a son, Thomas Benson, his brother Warren Benson, and sister Mary Irene Benson. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the Stillwater Christian Fellowship at Liberty Ridge, Stillwater Bridge Road, Schaghticoke with Pastor Michael Crandall and Rev. Josh Billings, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peters Cemetery, Stillwater.
