Obituary

Wayne Sheldon, 90, of Schaghticoke, passed away peacefully on Christmas Day.

Born and raised in Schaghticoke, Wayne was a lifelong resident and a pillar of his community. He was a proud farmer, cultivating the land he grew up on. Alongside his farming, Wayne dedicated many years of service to the Town of Schaghticoke's Highway Department. He was also a familiar and friendly face to generations of local children, having driven school bus for the district for many years.

Wayne was a man of simple pleasures. He cherished spending time with his family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and creating lasting memories. He was known for his generosity, his positive outlook, and strong work ethic. He was known to many as "The Turnip Man", having delivered many frost-sweetened turnips as gifts to everyone he knew.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley Sheldon, who passed away in 2016. Wayne is survived by his three children: Kevin Sheldon (Mila), Julie Mineau, and Doug Sheldon (Ian); his grandchildren Jennifer, Andrew, Liz, Dove, Matt and Jaime; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, and lifelong friends.

A service to celebrate Wayne's life will be held at Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke on January 4th. The viewing will be from 10am-12pm, with the service to follow at 12:00. Afterwards, any who wish to join the family in a Celebration of Life may join them at Sammy Cohen's Restaurant after the service concludes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Farmers' Legal Action Group to aid in providing legal resources to small farmers.

Wayne will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
