Wayne Gilbert, 61, of Johnsonville, NY passed away at his home on Friday, December 27, 2024, after a recent cancer diagnosis. Born in Troy, NY, on January 22, 1963, he was the son of Edie (Berney) Bieg and Joseph William Gilbert, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Penny (St. Gelais) Gilbert; his children, Tiffanie Gilbert and Tyler Gilbert; and his sisters, Kathleen (Charles) Mease and Patricia (Joseph) Gierka.

Wayne graduated from Hoosic Valley High School in 1981 before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force where he served as a Crew Chief, stationed at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine. Professionally, he worked in the construction field throughout his entire career. He was a master craftsman and carpenter and took pride in his home that was carefully renovated from a 19th Century barn. He was a lover of music, motorsports, gardening, cooking, and hosting gatherings. He most enjoyed spending time by the bonfire and listening to music with friends and family. He adored his family and loved ones and took pride in caring for and providing for them. Anyone who knew him would agree that he was a truly unique individual and a man that lived life on his own terms.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, the staff at The Community Hospice and incredible family and friends for their care, love, and support during Wayne's final months.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Valley Falls VFW Post at 242 Poplar Ave, Valley Falls, NY 12185  from 1-5:00pm on June 21, 2025. Military honors will be rendered at 2pm.
