Stillwater Saratoga County Thomas A. Murphy, Sr. of Hudson Avenue passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Washington Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Argyle. He was 78. Born on January 16, 1937 in Connelly, NY one of five sons of Stephen and Lucy (Maurer) Murphy. He is the husband of Betty (Mautone) Murphy. Mr. Murphy graduated from Kingston High School, Class of 1956. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and after his discharge in 1961 he went on to a career in retail sales. Most recently he worked for Walmart in Clifton Park as one of the original greeters since their opening. An avid Yankees fan, he collected sports memorabilia from the Yankees and Giants. Survivors in addition to his wife of 54 years, Betty Murphy include their children, Thomas (Margo) Murphy of Stillwater and Michele Warner (Tony Geer) of Rensselaer. His grandchildren Justin Murphy, Shawn Warner and Chad Murphy as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is also predeceased by his four brothers. Relatives and friends may call from 4-7pm on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. Funeral service will be conducted at 9:30am on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Saratoga National Cemetery.
