Sydney (Marcellus) Overocker, 71, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, June 5, 2011 while living alone in her Stillwater, NY home. Sydney was born January 21, 1940, to Leland and Sophie Marcellus in Middle Grove, NY. Sydney spent her working career as an accomplished bookkeeper, serving numerous employers in upstate New York. She earned a reputation as a hard working, loyal, and honest employee. Sydneys loving and giving ways were exemplified when she moved to Stuart, Florida, in the 1990s to care for her aging parents. Her honesty and integrity showed through once again as she proficiently dealt with her parents estate as executor. After her mothers passing she returned to upstate New York. She dearly loved her family and friends and was loved by them. She greatly enjoyed visiting her younger sister, Avis, and family in Midlothian, VA, and her brothers, Alvie and Earl, and their families in the state of Washington. She was lovingly known as Auntie Queen by her nieces and nephews. Sydney also loved her Bluegrass music and enjoyed many festivals with her family and friends. She loved her country and those who fought to protect our freedoms and showed her appreciation through her work in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. She will be greatly missed, but the born again believer can be comforted with the knowledge that there will be an ultimate reunion in Heaven with Sydney that will never end. Praise God for sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the ultimate price on the cross for our eternal security. Sydney is survived by her son, Dale, of Florida; her sister Avis Hill and husband Ben of Midlothian, VA.; brothers Alvie Marcellus and wife Phyllis of Spokane, WA., and Earl Marcellus and wife Julie of Leavenworth, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jimmy. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 2 P.M. at the Middle Grove United Methodist Church with interment following at the Hutchings Cemetery. We invite all attendees to return to the church for a light meal and to continue sharing memories of Sydney and celebrating her life.
