Brown, Stephen, J. Valley Falls
Steve Brown, 61, passed away peacefully at his home in Valley Falls on July 14, 2013, surrounded by loving family and friends. Steve was the devoted husband of Lynn Mulligan Brown and the son of Katherine Merk Brown and Joseph Brown, both deceased. Steve was born on Staten Island, NY, and enjoyed a childhood of fishing and boating. He loved Valley Falls and the surrounding area because the close knit community reminded him of Staten Island before the bridge was built. He graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in engineering and worked at Soil and Materials Testing, Inc. in Selkirk. He spent the last 15 years of his career as Quality Assurance Materials Supervisor at William E. Daily (Peckham Industries) in Shaftsbury, Vermont. He supervised the Shaftsbury Quality Control Laboratory, which ensures the quality & design of concrete, blacktop and state approved materials. He loved his work and the people he worked with.
Steves interests were many and varied. Scuba diving, cooking, wildlife studies, and reading were just a few. The home he shared with Lynn is full of unique things he built or created. His guitar was usually near the saltwater fish tank, both of which reflected his gentle and kind nature. He loved traveling, peanut butter and jelly, and his constant canine companion, Spike, who was with him until the end. He was closest to God when he was out doors, always recognizing the beauty and majesty of nature as a gift from a power greater than himself.
In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by a brother, Joe (Kim) Brown Andes, NY, a sister, Katherine Foggin Myrtle Beach, SC, nieces Susan (Jim) Tonrey Staten Island, Tracy Brown, Walton, NY, Meredith Foggin, Charleston, SC, nephews Robert (Haidy) Brown, Albany, Eric (Stacey) Brown Ballston Spa and Mark Foggin, NYC.
