Obituary

Stanley Henry Marten, formerly of Rensselaer and Stillwater passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Springs Nursing Center in Troy. He was 90. Born in Palmer, MA on February 16, 1922, son of the late Jan and Zofia (Krol) Bunk. He is the husband of the late Edna Helen (Gorsky) Marten who passed away in 1974 and Marie Bailey Marten who passed away in 1995. Mr. Marten is a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1942-1945 in the Cannon Company, 106th Infantry stationed in Honolulu, HI. As a teenager he served in the Conservation Corp. After his military service, he worked as a millwright at the Watervliet Arsenal. Stanley was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and enjoyed attending activities at the Polish Community Center with his companion of 12 years, Genny Blizinski. Stanley and Genny attended St. Michaels Polish Church in Cohoes together. Survivors include three children, Susan (Douglas) Volce of Arizona, Laurence (Virginia) Marten of Schaghticoke and Barbara (Randy) Alstadt of Rhinebeck, by his brother Henry (Sylvia) Bunk of Schaghticoke. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Stanley is predeceased by his two brothers Frank King and John Bak. Relatives and friends may call from 10-12 on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. Funeral service will be at noon in the funeral home.
