Cambridge, Washington County Stana Lee Hemstreet Iseman of Center Cambridge Road, Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 16, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was 66. Born in Troy on November 17, 1949, Stana was the daughter of Aileen (Aldrich) Hemstreet and the late Retired Brigadier General Stanley W. Hemstreet. She is the wife of Robert Hall Iseman, whom she married on May 27, 1972 at the Stillwater United Presbyterian Church. Stana graduated from Hoosic Valley Central School and Westminster College. She also studied at the University of Grenoble, France, and the University of Madrid, Spain. She was a certified teacher in both Spanish and French. Stana received a Masters Degree in Communications from the University at Albany in 1976. If she were here, however, she would tell you that her greatest accomplishments were as a wife, mother of seven, homemaker, and community volunteer. Senator Kathleen A. Marchione honored Stana as one of 2013s Women of Distinction for the 43rd Senate District. As the President of the Junior League of Albany, Stana presided over the creation of Albanys first domestic violence shelter. Stana served as a board member and President of the Board of Education of Cambridge Central School, where she was a tireless advocate for students and especially those with special needs. She was a zealous champion for children with developmental disabilities and acquired grant funding to provide training and alternate employment opportunities for the developmentally disabled. Stana was a strong woman of faith and was especially passionate about praying for others as an intercessor. She was a member of the Daughters of the King, a warden and vestryperson of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Cambridge, a former President of St. Marthas Guild, and a member of the Diocesan Commission on Ministry for the Albany Episcopal Diocese. She spearheaded the planning and fundraising for the restoration of the original Tiffany stained glass windows and Tiffany interior in St. Lukes Church. She created and helped to lead the administration of the Gloria Elhat Palmer Trust, which helps pay for healthcare services for the poor and underserved in the Cambridge community. She loved the Beaver Cross Youth Ministry Program at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center in Greenwich, where her son John serves as the Director of Youth Ministry. As descendants of the Knickerbocker family, Stana and other members of the Hemstreet family were the driving force behind the restoration of the 235-year-old Knickerbocker Mansion, after first saving it from demolition. As a board member for 25 years, Project Director, and officer of the Knickerbocker Historical Society, Stana helped raise about $1 million for the restoration of the Mansion, which is an important historic and architectural landmark in the Hudson Valley. Stanas successful grant writing was the foundation for the fundraising. Many of the grants required locally raised matching money, and Stana enjoyed these local fundraising activities by participating in bake sales and authentic Dutch luncheons and dinners, and leading many educational and historic community activities at the Mansion, all of which presented the history of the Mansion and the surrounding area. In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by her adoring children, Robert Hemstreet (Lynn) Iseman of Jacksonville, FL and their children Ryan and Aiden, Nathan Beckwith (Jeannie) Iseman of Wheaton, IL and their children Emmaus, Moriah and Ignatius, Rebeckah Elizabeth (Casey) Campbell of Washington, DC, Christine Marie Iseman, MD (fianc Randall Arms) of Albany, Susan Lee Iseman of Troy, Scott Wendtworth (Elyse) Iseman of Saratoga Springs and John Stanley (Jaclyn) Iseman of Greenwich and their daughter Eliza Grace. Stana is also survived by her siblings, Aileen Durrant, Leslie Allen, Steven Hemstreet and Hollie McNeil, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Stana was known and loved by many, and we will miss her more than words can describe. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am on Wednesday at the Christ the King Spiritual Life Center Chapel, 575 Burton Road, Greenwich. A luncheon reception and time of remembrance and reflection will follow in the Great Hall adjacent to the Chapel, with burial to follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke.
