Signe H. Smith of Stillwater, NY passed peacefully at the age of 93 on December 2, 2018 at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy, NY. Signe was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on July 11, 1925, a second generation American of Finnish heritage. She graduated as Valedictorian from Ondossagon High School in 1943. She attended Wisconsin State College (which is now Wisconsin University) for one year. In that year, she met her husband Lewis L. Smith and was married for 67 years. She was mother to three children, Rev. Erik L. Smith (Jane) of Charlton, NY; Karin Brosnahan of Arlington, MA; and Sena M. Monaco (Frank) of Middleburgh, NY and loving grandparent to 7 grandchildren and great grandparent to 7 great grandchildren. Signe loved to play the piano. She was an excellent accompanist and played for her high school choir, ensembles and solos. She continued to play for many years after as an accompanist and soloist for The United Methodist Church of Mechanicville. She would often play for family and visitors over the years. She also loved to bake cookies for her grandchildren, a fond memory often shared. A private service will be held by her family this spring.
