Sidney L.
Jones
Sep 14, 1952 — Mar 9, 2024
Schaghticoke-Rensselaer County-Jones
Sidney L. Jones, "Sid" of East Street in Schaghticoke, died suddenly at home on March 9, 2024. He was 71 years old.
Born in Troy, NY to the late Frederick J. and Marilyn M. (Aldrich) Jones, a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School and the automotive program at BOCES, Sid was the husband of Shelley (Gorrow), the love of his life and center of his world. They began dating when he was 16.
Employed by the Schaghticoke Town Highway, Gorman Brothers Paving, and Kingsley Arms; retiring from his business, Sid's General Repair, several years ago; he was elected for several terms on the Schaghticoke Fire Department Board of Directors and served 10 years as Trustee on the Schaghticoke Village Board.
A member of The Sons of the American Legion Post 731, The Weekend Wanderers, and Valley Hot Rodders; a car enthusiast who owned many vehicles in his lifetime but still drove and maintained his favorite - a 1939 Pontiac purchased at age 15. An artist who etched mirrors, car windows, and even his wife's kitchen spatulas, Sid was gifted at painting custom flames on cars and motorcycles.
A Man's Man, never afraid to try anything, Sid worked as a mechanic but knew more than large trucks and engines- with his ingenuity and love for learning he could fix or build anything. An outdoorsman, skilled trapper, and avid hunter who enjoyed muzzleloading firearms and cannons, he had a passion for riding Harleys and quads (particularly with his friends who built The Patio - a living room in the forest they constructed of tree trunks - and who came home muddier than you could imagine).
He was a man of few words, who especially loved his family.
Survivors along with his beloved wife of 51 years include his daughter Carrie (Chuck) Dunham of Ballston Lake; his granddaughters, Lindsey Serritella, Mackenzie Serritella, and Willow Dunham; and numerous extended family. In addition to his parents, Sid was predeceased by his sister, Cathy Campbell, and their cousin Mickey Jones, who had resided in their home.
Services are private at this time. If you would like to make a memorial contribution, they may be made in Sid's name to The Huntington's Disease Society of America, The American Lung Association or The American Heart Association, c/o Chase-Smith, 319 Park Ave, Mechanicville, NY 12118.
