Schaghticoke Rensselaer County Shirley A. Sheldon of Verbeck Avenue passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. She was 76. Born in Troy on July 29, 1939, daughter of the late Harry and Juliette (Whalen) Gressler. She is the wife of Wayne A. Sheldon whom she married on August 27, 1960. Shirley was an active parishioner and choir member of the former St. John's Church in Schaghticoke. She enjoyed caning and refinishing furniture. She loved singing and was a member of the Musical Arts of Troy where they would perform at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and was an usher at the Egg in Albany. She also wrote for the Pittstown Centinel. Survivors in addition to her husband Wayne A. Sheldon include their children Kevin W. (Mila) Sheldon and Julie A. Mineau (Sheldon) both of Schaghticoke and Douglas C. Sheldon (Ian Blowers) of Troy. Her siblings, Susan Cash of Orchard Park and Charles (Betty) Gressler of TN, six grandchildren, her nieces, nephews and lifelong friend Paula Auclair. Relatives and friends may call from 9-11am on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11:30am on Wednesday at Transfiguration Parish, Schaghticoke. Burial will be in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery.
