Obituary

Stillwater- Hartmann, Sarah S. Sarah S. "Sally" Hartmann of Hudson Avenue, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012 at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa. She was 96. Mrs. Hartmann was born on January 10, 1916 in Stillwater, daughter of the late William L. and Lena (Curtis) Smith. She is the wife of the late William H. Hartmann who passed away in 1949. She was a graduate of the Royal Oak High School in Royal Oak, Michigan and attended the Detroit Business School. Sally was employed by SUNY Albany where she was the Principal Clerk at the Library. Sally was a charter member of both the Stillwater United Church and the Stillwater Historical Society. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and also held several offices at the Mid Rise Tenants Association and was a member of the Schaghticoke Senior Citizens. She belonged to several genealogical societies as well as the Stillwater and Knickerbocker Historical Societies. An avid genealogical researcher, she has a large collection that is currently housed at the Stillwater Library. Some roots are traced to the 1600's and even further back including a link to the Knickerbockers. Her work has enabled kin to join the Daughters of the American Revolution and Sons of the American Revolution. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Annetta Melber-Delano, Kathleen Shave, Rebecca Miorin, Linda Engle, Barbara Frosthoffer, Raymond Neal and Lance, William, Quentin, Keith and Michael Smith and her sister-in-laws, Michaelina Smith, Amelia "Betty" Smith and Miriam Hartmann Connors. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Hartmann and her siblings, Eugene Smith, Cornelia Neale Gunther, Lincoln R., William L., Curtis C. Smith and Benjamin W. who passed away as an infant and nephews Eugene Smith, Jr. And Curtis Smith, Jr. At Sarah's request services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the family plot in Stillwater Union Cemetery.
