Salvatore F. "Sam" "Papa Smurf" Morales passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026 in North Carolina following a brief illness. He was 75 years old.

Born in Schenectady on May 24, 1950, son of the late Frank and Antoinette (Pagano) Morales. He is the husband of Joan (O'Connor) Morales.

Sam was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps., serving from 1967-1970 and from 1973-1975. Sam was very proud of his service in Vietnam from 1968 – 1969. He was a member of the VFW Post 1938 and the Vietnam Veterans M.C. Sam loved riding his Harley and was happiest with the wind in his face or fighting bulls at the Onslow Rodeo Arena. In earlier years he was an avid hunter and member of the Camp Lejeune Rod & Gun Club. He also enjoyed his time with his son Tony raising champion hunting dogs. He loved cruises with his beloved Joan (especially the ones with his son Sam and Kirstie) and he loved all their adventures together. In Sam's later years he was often found in his recliner enjoying an old movie he'd already seen 100 times. Sam was a friend to everyone and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

Survivors in addition to his wife Joan include his children, Salvatore "Sam" (Kirstie) Morales, Anthony "Tony" (Sharon) Morales, Erika Boyce, Joshua Boyce, Jessica Barber, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings, Judy Morales, Jeanette Morales, Maria Johnson, William LaFlash, Antoinette Swint and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 18 from 10am-11:45am at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main St., Schaghticoke with music and reflections to follow. Burial with Military Honors will be at 12:30 at the Gerald B. H. Solomon – Saratoga National Cemetery. All are welcome to come celebrate Sam's life with a reception immediately following at the VFW Post 1938 (242 Poplar Ave Valley Falls, NY 1285).
