Sullivan, Ruth - Mechanicville, Saratoga County
Ruth A. Sullivan, of North 4th Avenue, Mechanicville and Brookdale Assisted Living, Niskayuna passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia. She was just shy of 103 years old. Born on November 23, 1920 in Frankfurt, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Fred M. and Maria Hess Beck. She immigrated to the United States in 1929 and settled in Mechanicville. She was a graduate of Mechanicville High School and Mildred Elley School of Business in Albany. She proudly served in the Womens Army Auxiliary Corps and was honorably discharged. She often shared stories about her time in the Army and took an interest in the experiences of others that had been in military service. She married and built a life with William F. Sullivan, Jr. until his passing in 1997.
Ruth took pride in her family and always wanted the best for those around her. She was a good neighbor and enjoyed socializing with others. She was an excellent cook and host. Anyone that visited her home never left hungry. She enjoyed shopping and was often delighted by the items she would purchase for herself and others.
Survivors include her children, Sharon Sullivan of California and Linda Rowland of Mechanicville, her grandchildren, Jenny (Jason) McMillen of Rotterdam, Mark (Alison) Rowland of Latham, Austin (Christina) Rowland of Guilderland, Kevin (Kathleen) Rowland of Plattsburgh, Sharyl (Chris) Sullivan of Colorado, and William F. Sullivan of California. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is predeceased by her son, William F. Sullivan, III, her siblings, Marie Beck Connors and Fred Beck, and a son-in-law, Larry Rowland.
The family of Ruth Sullivan wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the employees of Baptist Health and the Community Hospice for the compassionate care given to her. The family extends additional thanks for the support provided by Ruths niece, Susan Fiacco, and Ruths friend, Fran Jablonski. She had a long life, well lived, and now she can rest in peace.
Services for Ruth will be private and at the convenience of her family with burial in the family plot in St. Pauls Cemetery, Mechanicville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Community Hospice, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, or a charity of ones choice in memory of Ruth Sullivan.
