Halfmoon, Saratoga County Russell K. Mathewson, 64, of Halfmoon passed away Tuesday, September 24th, 2013 at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY. Born in Oneonta, NY, he was the son of the late Gordon and Barbara Mathewson. Russell was raised in Oneonta and later lived a number of years in Lansingburgh, NY. He was a distinguished and talented high school athlete for Oneonta High School, ranging from track and field to wrestling and cross-country. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Lansingburgh Veteran's Club. He worked as a crew dispatcher for the Delaware & Hudson Railroad in Watervliet, helped run Bob's Grocery in Lansingburgh and then worked for Wal-Mart in Halfmoon. He is survived by his son, James and his very close and dear friend, Andrea Allen. Relatives and friends may call from 10am-12pm on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Hoosic Valley Community Church, Route 40, Schaghticoke. Memorial service will follow at noon in the church.
