Mechanicville (Town of Halfmoon), Saratoga County Roman W. Johnson of Johnson Road passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. He was 87. Roman was born in Troy on October 25, 1926, son of the late Casimir and Mary (Laba) Johnson. The family moved to Mechanicville in 1935. On September 21, 1961 he married Ruth Simmons. He worked as a dairy farmer for his entire life at the family farm, Johnson Dairy Farm. He was a charter member of the Hillcrest Fire Department and a member of the Farm Bureau and the National Farmer Organization. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ruth Simmons Johnson, his son, William R. (Anita) Johnson of Mechanicville, his beloved grandson, the apple of his eye Roman W. Johnson of Stephentown and his mother Jeanette, a sister in law Helen Johnson and brothers in law Roger N. Travis and Owen J. (Darlene) Simmons as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother Walter C. Johnson and his sister in law Marjorie Travis. Relatives and friends may call from 10-12 noon on Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 319 Park Avenue, Mechanicville. Funeral service will be conducted at noon in the funeral home. Burial will be in Clifton Park Village Cemetery.
