To the memory of Robert A. Mason...
Bob Mason was a farmer who loved cheap beer, sunsets with his wife, Melanie, his dogs, country music, bourbon, and baked beans. He built barns, rebuilt motors, and restored old homes. He was genial and generally soft spoken, with a wry sense of humor that could split your sides. He loved to eat and drink and always said folks could call him whatever they wanted, as long as it wasn't late for dinner. A vascular surgeon who plied his trade at Saratoga Hospital, his true passion was farming, and he used his tireless work ethic to pull Longlesson Angus from the untamed earth. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who deeply cherished his family, and whose family deeply loved him. But most of all, he was my dad. He was my role model and my beacon, a man I looked to for guidance as I grew into adulthood and to this day. He was the epitome of strength both in body and character. And someone who departed leaving a chasm in my life that will never be filled. On Sunday, he waited until sunset to take his last breath and then peacefully pushed forward into the unknown. We raised a glass for him and tearfully watched the sky illuminate in hues of red, orange, and magenta as he departed. In reading this, please understand that he wasnt into churches or preachers listening to Willie Nelsons music was about as close as he came to religion. So kindly dont offer your thoughts and prayers. Instead, tell us a story about him. Give us a memory. Tell us something you know that will help keep his fire burning as brilliant as those sunsets he loved to watch...
His son Justin, along with Melanie, Shannon, Chris, Jennifer, James, Eva, Emma, and Teagan.
