Richard Schiavo, Mechanicville, Saratoga County Richard Francis Schiavo of South Third Street passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. He was 78. Born in Ballston Spa on May 14, 1939, son of the late Dominick Schiavo and Lena VanChance. He is a graduate of Ballston Spa High School, class of 1957 where he played many sports. He spent most of his life working as a food broker and much of that time for Grand Union. He loved watching and attending sporting events, especially the Indianapolis Colts and the LA Dodgers. He had a great love of rock and roll music from the 1950s and 1960s and a large music collection that he enjoyed listening to. Also, he was the scorekeeper for the Albany Schafer Brewers basketball team for many years. He is predeceased by his parents, Lena VanChance formerly of Mechanicville and Dominick Schiavo formerly of Ballston Spa as well as two twin grandsons, Jonathan and Samuel Schiavo. Survivors include his daughter, Susanne Schiavo of Mechanicville, his son, Joseph (Heather) Schiavo of Saratoga Springs, grandchildren Joseph and Ella of Saratoga Springs, his brother, Frank (Marie) Schiavo of Ballsoton Spa and his uncles, Patsy Schiavo of Ballston Spa and James Schiavo formerly of Ballston Spa. A memorial mass will be conducted on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 11am at St. Marys Catholic Church, 167 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa.
