Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County Richard James Smith (Dick) of School Street passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. He was 82. Born in Schaghticoke on October 15, 1939. He is the husband of Florence Marie (Stevens) Smith whom he married on November 3, 1961. Mr. Smith served in the US Navy from 1956-1960. He worked for Rifenburg Construction as a truck driver where he retired. An avid traveler, he enjoyed going to truck shows, especially the yearly show in Kentucky. Dick enjoyed collecting Hess trucks, hats, pens and he never saw a flashlight he didnt love. Survivors in addition to his wife Florence with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this Wednesday include, Karen Kyer (Kevin) of Buskirk, Steve (Sue) Smith of Schaghticoke, Rich Smith of Myrtle Beach, SC and John Smith of Schaghticoke, his grandchildren, Hal (Kim), Kendra, Jenna (Garret), Kody (Jenelle) and Logan and great grandchildren Axel McKeon, Jordyn, Rylee, and Addison Kyer as well as his siblings, Ed Smith, Lois (Ed) Carson and Mary Ellen Slezek. He is predeceased by siblings Leon Smith, Doris Russom, Warren Smith, and brother-in-law Tony Slezek. Graveside services with military honors will be 10:30am on Friday, November 5, 2021, in the Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
