Easton, Washington County Raymond Edward Johnson of Route 40 passed away at home on June 29, 2022 with loving family at his side on a sunny June day. He was 88. Ray was born December 31, 1933 on a stormy night in Troy to the late Richard M and Bertha (Kenyon) Johnson of Easton. He attended the Barkers Grove School in Easton, was a member of the Class of 1949 graduating from Greenwich Central School system and went on to graduate from Cornell University, ALS 1954. He met his wife, Estella Kling at Cornell and they were married in 1955. They recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Easton. He was a dairy farmer and owned and operated the Duelwood Farm. He was a key dairy promotion leader nationally and locally throughout his life. He was a member of the Dairylea Cooperative Executive Committee, Washington County Extension Service, the Tri-County Holstein Club, the Cornell Secondary Schools Committee and was a member and past president of the Washington County Farm Bureau, past president of the American Dairy Association and Dairy Councils and past treasurer of for the National Dairy Council. He was proud to have been appointed to a 3 year term for the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board under President George W Bush where he was chairman of the Research Committee. He was awarded the Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmers Award for New York State in 1975 and the Outstanding Alumni Award from Cornell ALS in 1992. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife, Estella Johnson include his sons, W. Richard Johnson of Provincetown, MA and Edward R. (Andrea Traver) Johnson of Easton and Robert D. (Kelly Goodwin) Johnson, San Diego, CA, his grandsons, Trevor J. (Aimee Baker) of Round Lake and their children Sawyer and Amelia, Nicholas J. (Molly Kaye) Johnson of New York City and their child Easton K Johnson, Graham K. (Emily Fung) Johnson, Pendleton Marine Base, CA and Kai D. Johnson of San Diego, CA. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son, James "Jamie" M. Johnson who passed away in 1975 and his brothers, James, Philip and Carl Johnson. Services will be private and at the convenience of his family with burial in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery.
