R. Frederick Chase of Defreestville NY, died peacefully August 17, 2023, after complications stemming from an auto accident in December. He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia Lynne Taillon (David) of Voorheesville, NY and Holly Chase Davis (Jeffrey) of Leicester, VT, and his grandchildren, Brendan D. Taillon (Rachel) of Lake Butler, Florida and Samantha L. Taillon of Boston, MA.
Having grown up in Melrose, NY, Fred graduated from Lansingburgh High School (55) and then followed his fathers footsteps to Hamilton College (59) and Albany Law School (62). Fred started his law career in Troy, NY where he partnered with Judge Conrad Lang and later formed their private practice in Averill Park; he was a staple in the Rensselaer County Court System.
Fondest memories of Fred include his incredible intelligence, fantastic sense of humor and outstandingly quick wit, all of which were passed down to his two daughters. He was a self-proclaimed chick magnet, a diehard fan of the Yankees and NY Giants, and a Neil Diamond fanatic. Fred especially loved his puzzles (particularly Jumble and Cryptoquip), feeding and watching his birds (and many squirrels) and driving to Vermont for lunch at Sweet Carolines in West Rutland.
Fred was an avid ham radio operator and loved conversing across the globe, mapping out all locations contacted. This interest later evolved into a love of his in-home CB radio, on which he would converse with his buddies day and night, playing puzzles and mocking one another.
He is predeceased by his parents H. Irving Chase and Beatrice Gifford Chase, his childhood sweetheart and wife, Evelyn Reed Chase, and his most beloved cats.
Calling hours will be from 10am-12 noon on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. A funeral service will be held at noon in the funeral home. Burial will be private in Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke.
