Obituary

Paula Cononica MECHANICVILLE Paula Cononica, 93, of Hemstreet Park, died Monday, August 27, at Saratoga Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Cononica was born January 6, 1925 in Oblisca Grande, Province of Trieste, Italy, the daughter of the late Giovanni and Maria Zele Rovere. She was educated in the Italian public school system. Emigrating to the United States in 1947, she married the late Albert Cononica, whom she met while he was stationed in Italy during World War II. Mrs. Cononica was employed by the Korell Corporation, before retiring in the 1980s. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking, and most of all, being in the presence of her loving family. She was a communicant of the Church of the Assumption (now the parish of All Saints on the Hudson) in Mechanicville. Survivors include two daughters, Maria (Ludwig) Amann, and Anne Amann, both of Mechanicville; ten grandchildren, Mark (Katherine), Rebecca, and Ryan (Clarice) Amann; Sara (Mat) Garrand, Jennifer (Dr. William) Malone, Dr. Kristen (Dr. Christopher) Caulfield, George (Kara) Amann, Katherine (Edward) Amann, John (Meaghan) Amann, and Emily Amann; fourteen great-grandchildren, Thomas, Daniel, Mark, Joseph, Ludwig and Andrew Amann; Brandon, Logan, and Hyde Garrand; Erin and Sen Malone; Penelope Caulfield; Noelle and George Amann; and many nieces and nephews in the United States and abroad. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four sisters, Francesca Falbo, Antonia Vidmar, Giovanna Bervinz, and Maria Rovere; three brothers, Franz, Matteo, and Giovanni Rovere; and one son-in-law, Dr. George Amann. A requiem mass will be held on Thursday August 30, at noon in St. Paul the Apostle Church (All Saints on the Hudson Parish), 121 North Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118, with interment to follow at St. Paul's cemetery. Prior to the funeral, a viewing hour will be held at the church starting at 11am. For those wishing to remember Paula in a special way, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints on the Hudson Endowment Fund, 52 William Street, Mechanicville, in loving memory of Paula Cononica.
