Paul Gardiner Scott SCHAGHTICOKE - Paul Gardiner Scott, 86, passed away on July 27, 2012 at St. Marys Hospital in Troy. He was born August 24, 1925 in his beloved hometown of Cobleskill, N.Y. to Gardiner Scott and Irene (Buck) Scott. A happy childhood was spent in the company of his dad, playing ball with his younger brother, or, as a lifelong pet lover, enjoying the family pet. His teens were to bring about major changes in his life. While exhibiting his skills as a roller skater, he was spotted by the pretty new girl in town, Ellen Boyce. It truly was love at first sight and after a 4-year courtship, they were married October 9, 1943 at the age of 18. As a teen, he also clearly remembered how life in America changed at the news of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Patriotism was a key aspect of Pauls character and he enlisted in the Navy. Shortly after Paul and Ellens marriage, he was sent for active duty in the South Pacific where he proudly served his country during World War II. Eventually Paul and Ellen settled down in Fishkill, N.Y. where they raised their three young children while Paul worked at Ketchums Garage. His dream was to one day own his own car dealership and in 1961, Paul moved his family to Johnsburg, N.Y. as the new proprietor of the Johnsburg Garage. Paul dedicated himself to his community and served for many years on the Johnsburg Central School Board, on the Town of Johnsburg Planning Board, on the local Chamber of Commerce, and as a devoted Rotarian. Garnet Lake, in the Adirondacks, was a huge chapter in Pauls life. The family camp was nestled on the shore and the Scotts Camp was the general meeting place for literally all the families around the lake. Sunny afternoons would find Paul teaching the neighborhood kids how to water ski, enjoying pitching a game of horseshoes with his close friends, or taking a leisurely boat ride around the lake in the evening. In later years, Paul and Ellen retired to Schaghticoke, N.Y. Paul is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Ellen. He is survived by his two sons, Hank and wife, Bonnie and Al Bencs and wife K. C. he is also survived by his daughters, Ann Arsenault and her husband, Gene of Johnsburg, and Penny "Bugs" Baughman and her husband, David of Tucson, Arizona He was a proud grandfather who delighted his grand children with his unique sense of humor. His nine grandchildren are Lance Scott and wife, Jodi; Casey Scott and wife, Vicky; Josh Scott; Melissa Arsenault Vokey and husband, Frans; Bree Arsenault; Kara Arsenault Deese and husband, Brian; Leigh Arsenault and her fianc, Jack Shapiro; Spencer Bencs and wife, Nicole; and Travis Bencs and wife Shannon. He is also survived by sixteen great grandchildren: Brooke, Brittany, Zack, Kelsea, Jared, AJ, Andrew, Carlie, Taylor, Riley, Will, Luke, Preston, Kendall, Chandler, and Madelynn. Also survived by his dog, "Lucky". Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by his sister, Barbara, and his brother, Arnold. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of his family. Burial with military honors will be at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y.
