Nelson W. Reger, 82, of Mechanicville, NY passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017.
Nelson, was the son of the late Gregory and Margaret (Noonan) Reger, brother of the late Gregory (Lucky) and Frederick (Bud) Reger. Husband of the late Shirley Ann (Simonson) Reger of West Seneca, NY.
Loving husband of Carol (Fellows) Reger, passed away after a short battle with cancer.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Reger) Westenfeld, two grandchildren Craig Westenfeld (wife Maegan), Erin Elkins (Westenfeld) (husband Mark) and two beautiful Great-Granddaughters, Lillian and Kara. He is also survived by one remaining brother, Donald Reger Sr. of Jordan, Arkansas and family, Jean Reger and family of West Seneca, NY.
Nelson, fondly known as the Duke by many, lived and worked in the Buffalo, NY area starting out at Worthington Pump as a layout man. From there he worked for American Machine & Foundries. While working at AMF, Nelson opened his own bar and dance hall on the lake, called the Grandview.
From Buffalo, he later moved to the Pennsylvania area working for Automated Machine Corp and Dor Oliver in Scranton, PA. He eventually moved back to the Buffalo area and started working for Bell Aerospace/Textron in the Niagara Falls area as Director of Machine, Manufacturing and Control. He retired from Bell Aerospace in 1995.
He enjoyed bartending part time at McKenzies located in Hamburg, NY. He knew many of the Buffalo Bills players including quarterback, Jim Kelly.
Nelson loved fishing, deer hunting, woodworking, baseball, golfing, reading and playing cards. He was an avid bridge player. He was a fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and the Yankees.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Orchard Park, NY.
