Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County Michael F. Hughes of East Street passed away at home on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. He was 71. Born in Flushing, Queens on May 14, 1950, son of the late John and Hazel (Rochette) Hughes. He is the widow of the late Jean (Moon) Hughes who passed away on April 13, 2011. A veteran of the US Army, Mike worked for the United States Post Office as a clerk and was active in the APWU, serving as president. He was an avid NY Jets and NY Mets fan and could often be heard yelling "why do I root for this team!?" often from the other room. Survivors include his children, Chelsea M. (William, Jr.) Russell of Clifton Park, William E. Hughes and Michael F. Hughes, Jr., both of Schaghticoke. His brother John Hughes of Myrtle Beach, SC, a sister-in-law Joann (Kenneth) MacDougall, a brother-in-law William A. (Shelly) Moon as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
