Mechanicville - Saratoga County Melissa Kay Dragon-Hurd of East Street passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at her home with her loving family at her side. She was 48. Born on April 2, 1965 in Glens Falls, she is the daughter of the late Harold James and Kay Elizabeth (nee Garvin) Dragon. She is the fiance of Mr. Joseph Hurd. Melissa is a 1983 graduate of Stillwater Central Schools and went on to study at Bryant and Stratton College graduating in 1996 with an Associate's Degree. She worked as an assistant teacher at Head Start Early Childhood Learning Center of Saratoga County. She will be remembered as a loving and talkative person who would always be eager to lend a helping hand. She is a great friend to many and loved spending time with her family. Melissa enjoyed trips to Maine, especially to York Beach. Survivors in addition to her fianc Joseph include her sister Loraine and husband Stephen Farnell of Mechanicville, her children Justin Hurd of South Royalton, VT, David Benedict and Morgan Benedict, both of Mechanicville. Also her step mother Mary Moore of Stillwater and a grandson, Cole Dragon. Relatives and friends may call from 4-7pm on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 319 Park Avenue, Mechanicville.
