Mary Elsie Marpe (nee LeBarron), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt
and friend, passed away at age 90, peacefully at home on Friday, February 23, 2018.
Born in Troy, New York, on August 22, 1927 to George Dean and Dorothy Brown Lebarron,
Elsie graduated from Hoosick Falls H.S., lived in Jacksonville, Fl for a short time,
and returned home to marry in 1949. Elsie was married to Paul E. Marpe for 53 years.
She will be forever remembered by her 5 children, Paula McCarthy, and her husband John, Sarasota, Fl, Katie Hogan, and her husband Danny, Cohoes, N.Y., David Marpe, and his wife, Sharon, Doug Marpe, and Lisa Marpe, all of Buskirk, N.Y.
In addition to her children, Elsie will be remembered by her beloved sister, Mabel Schillaci, and beloved sisters-in-law, Edie Krupansky, Mary Marpe and Joan Lebarron, as well as cherished grandchildren, Tammy, Diane, David, Michael, Staci, Dan, Doug and Emily. She treasured her 14 great grandchildren as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Elsie will be greatly missed by her dear friend, Loie Slingerland.
Elsie is preceded in death by her husband Paul, her brother George Lebarron, and other extended family members and friends.
Elsie was active throughout her life in the community as a 4-H leader, Red -Cross swim instructor at Pine Lake, Matron of the Eastern Star, volunteer for the Johnsonville Rescue Squad for 25 years, ombudsman for the Hoosick Falls Health Center over 10 years while in her 70's and a proud member of the Grange, local and national, for 70 years.
Elsie will be remembered for her gift of gab, remembrance and recording of family history, both Marpe and Lebarron, and her love of family and open heart to all. She leaves us with a treasure trove of memories of a life well-lived.
Elsie led a life guided by integrity, community and love. In honor of this the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00pm on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Funeral will be at Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10am. Graveside service immediately following at Memory Gardens, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Hoosick Falls Health Center or to The National Audubon Society to help protect the wildlife she loved.
