Obituary

MARIE JAYNE BAKER Stillwater Marie Jayne Baker passed away peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Saratoga Hospital after a long battle with cancer and complications from covid and pneumonia. She had recently celebrated her 89th birthday. Marie was born in Stillwater on September 18, 1933, a daughter of the late Dorothy (Kilmer) and Albert Barbolt, a respected member of the community and local politician who served many years as Justice of the Peace. After graduating from Stillwater High School, she was employed as an office worker at West Virginia Pulp and Paper in Mechanicville. In 1955, she married Stillwater native Kenneth L. Baker following his honorary discharge from the Navy. Ken, like her father, also was drawn to politics and served several terms as a village trustee and town councilman. Ken was the love of her life and she spoke fondly of him often and missed him dearly since his passing in 2016. Marie was blessed with 62 years of marriage to Ken and dedicated herself fulltime to raising their four sons and being a homemaker. She found great pleasure in her flowers, arranging them and working in the garden beds throughout her yard. Marie also had an affinity for decorating and crafting and participated in many craft shows in the village. She enjoyed restaurants and travel, camping and vacationing, and holidays with the whole family. In their retirement years, Marie loved spending summers with Ken at the ocean in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine and winters at their home on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Survivors include her children, Brian K. Baker of Bordentown, NJ, Bruce D. (Carolyn) Baker, and Kevin P. (Dawn) Baker all of Stillwater; her beloved grandchildren Christopher J. Baker, Tiffany A. (J.P.) DeFelice, Elizabeth A. Baker, and Kathryn M. (Chris) Barclay; and great grandchildren Cameron, Alexander, Sidney, and John Paul. She is also survived by her sister Beverly (William) Patenaude of Stillwater, brother-in-law Milton (Ruth) Baker of Willsboro, sister-in-law Patsy (Floyd) Baker of Maryland, and several nieces and nephews. Marie is predeceased by her son, Kenny J. Baker, and her siblings, Albert and Leo Barbolt, and Jane (Simmons) Hawthorne. Marie was a lifelong parishioner at the former St. Peters Catholic Church in Stillwater. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 11:30am at All Saints on the Hudson Church, Stillwater. Visiting will be held in the church before mass from 9:30-11:30am.
