Lucila M. McLaughlin, 75, of Schaghticoke, passed to eternal rest on May 13th2010 after a long illness. She was born on April 12, 1935 in Colon, Panama. Daughter of Francisco Sanchez and Muriel (Alexander) Sanchez. She was educated at Christ Church Academy in Colon and was fluent in both English and Spanish. She met and married her husband of 55 years Richard, while he was serving with the United States Navy in the canal zone. In 1955, they settled in Valley Falls and in 1963 they built their present home in Schaghticoke. Mrs. McLaughlin had become a United States citizen. She worked at Cluett Peabody in Troy for several years before she resigned to become a full time homemaker. Before arthritis crippled her hands, she made prize winning Halloween costumes for her children. She was an excellent cook and became an expert at preserving the garden harvest. She particularly enjoyed jazz. Lucila was the consummate bargain hunter who felt a good sale was not to be missed. She is survived by her husband Richard, her daughter Diana (Mike) Mayo, sons James (Lisa) McLaughlin, Patrick (Kelly) McLaughlin and Kevin (Patty) McLaughlin. Grandchildren Carrie, Samantha, Christopher, Alexandra, Patrick Jr., Conner and Dannie. Great grandchildren Melissa, Taylor and Brianna and beloved niece Raquel(Azeem) Lewan and their son Jeremy. She is predeceased by her brother Carlos Sanchez and sister Mavis (Sanchez) Lewan. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, May 16th, 2010 from 4 - 7 PM at the Chase Funeral Home 173 Main Street Schaghticoke. A committal service will take place Monday at 10:00 AM in the Elmwood Cemetery, with the Rev. George Fleming, officiating.
