Melrose, Rensselaer Co. Lois Jane Hartnett passed away April 23, 2021 at the age of 88. Born in Connersville, Indiana, in 1933 to the late Eloise and Oran Perry, her family eventually settled in Waterford, NY. She graduated from Cohoes High School in 1947, where she was a member of the cheerleading squad and actively participated in many school clubs and activities. She loved to brag that she earned a 99 on her Latin Regents exam. She met the love of her life, Charles E. Hartnett, in 1948, and they were married in December 1952. Lois and Charlie were together for 63 years surrounded by family in Melrose, NY, before his passing in 2015. In addition to keeping the books and managing her husbands land surveying business, Lois taught Sunday School at the Melrose Methodist Church, was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, volunteered and always helped others in the community. She loved puzzles, games, reading and history. She could recite all the US Presidents and their wives in order. Lois was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and always had a warm smile for any children. She loved her annual "vacation" in January to the New York Association of Professional Land Surveyors conference, where she was an active auxiliary member for many years. She leaves behind her children Penny Hill (Richard Zazycki), John (Jane) Hartnett, and Jennifer (Paul) Molesky. Also, seven grandchildren: Forrest (Amber Brust) Hartnett, Hudson (Kim) Hartnett, Gracey (Dave Carey) Hartnett, Andrea (Greg Popp) Hill, Paul (Caitlin) Molesky, Anya (Benjamin) Angley, and Dylan (Carlee Chapko) Molesky and sixteen great-grandchildren. She also treasured her Minnesota family: sister-in-law Marcia (Willard) Koukkari, and her nieces Melissa (Tim) Ridley, Heidi (Alan) Reitz and nephew Mark (Mary) Koukkari and all their children. In addition to her parents and her husband, Lois is predeceased by her brother Oran Perry, her grandson M. Skye Hartnett, her son Michael D. Hartnett, and her daughter-in-law Raedine Foster Hartnett. The family wishes to express sincerest gratitude to all the medical personnel, caregivers and others who helped and supported Lois so she could enjoy staying in her home for the last two years.
