Brunswick, Rensselaer County Leon Randolph Philpott passed away suddenly at home after being stricken on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. He was 82. Born in Troy on January 1, 1941, son of the late Randolph Harrison and Gladys Linda (Harmon) Philpott. He is the husband of the late Joan Ann Philpott who passed away in 2017. Leon worked for the New York State Department of Transportation in various positions, most recently in Traffic and safety. He was a member of the Mechanicville Elks Lodge #1403 and a member of both the VFW #1938 in Valley Falls and the American Legion Post 91 in Mechanicville. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and loved playing golf. Survivors include his children, Randy (Stacey) Philpott of Johnsonville, Linda (Martin) Garland of Mechanicville and AmyJo (Jon) Tanzman of Brunswick. His grandchildren, Heather (Joel) Fey, Joshua Garland, Thomas (Laura) Hunter, Madisan Hunter and Sylvia Tanzman. Also survived by six great grandchildren, his sister Diane DeLurey and three nieces. He is predeceased by his granddaughter Brittany Philpott. Relatives and friends may call from 4-6:00pm on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Home Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm in the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held at the Valley Falls VFW #1938 immediately following the memorial service at the funeral home.
