Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County Lee Edward St. Gelais, Sr., of Old Schaghticoke Road, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 62. Born on September 1, 1950 in Troy, son of the late Donald and Shirley (Durocher) St. Gelais, formerly of Port Ritchie, Fl. On July 4, 1970, he married Kathleen A. Smith at the former St. John's Church in Schaghticoke. They just celebrated 43 years of marriage. Lee was employed by the D&H Railroad as a Car Inspector, retiring in 2010 after a 43 year career. He enjoyed fishing and working on small engines and would spend countless hours in his vegetable garden. Above all he adored his children and grandchildren. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife Kathleen St. Gelais include their children, Kelly (Michael) Ciccarelli of Schaghticoke and Lee (Melissa) St. Gelais, Jr. of Windsor, his grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Ciccarelli and Abigail and Brandt St. Gelais, his brother James (Ann) St. Gelais of Melrose and sister Patricia (Francis) Beninati of Mechanicville as well as his brother-in-law William Smith of Schaghticoke and his special niece Bonnie Smith of Mechanicville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lee is predeceased by his sister Donna Smith and brother Donald St. Gelais. Relatives and friends may call from 4-7pm on Sunday (today) July 7, 2013 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street Schaghticoke. Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 10am on Monday at Transfiguration Parish, Route 40, Schaghticoke. Burial will be in the family plot in Millertown Cemetery, Johnsonville.
