Joseph J. Kardas, Valley Falls, Rensselaer County
Joseph J. Kardas of Kardas Road passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Schuyler Ridge Residential Health Care Center. He was 98.
Born in Valley Falls on September 25, 1917, son of the late William and Mary Kardas. He is the husband of the late Adella (Flascher) Kardas whom he married on November 23, 1952.
Mr. Kardas was educated in a one room school house in Valley Falls. He went on to work at the Kardas Brothers Dairy Farm. A parishioner of Transfiguration Parish, he was also an avid reader, gardener and above all he was both a devoted farmer and family man.
Survivors include his son, James Kardas of Menands and his daughter Janet Stark of Valley Falls, his brother Frank Kardas of Stillwater, sister in laws Lorraine Kardas of Lansingburgh and Marion Kardas of Latham, beloved grandchildren Silas (Kristina) Stark of Dallas, GA, Nathan (Sarah) Stark of Valley Falls and great grandchildren Andrew Stark and Madeline Stark.
He is predeceased by his brothers, John, Albert, Edward and Walter Kardas and his sister Sylvia Novotny his son in law John Stark and sister in law Helen Kardas
Funeral service will be conducted at 10am on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Johns Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Luke Nightengale, caregivers Pat Hebert, Mel and Maggie, the staff at Samaritan Hospital, Albany Medical Center and Schuyler Ridge and all the family and friends that have supported them in these hard times.
