Halfmoon, Saratoga County
Joseph C Greene passed into eternal life peacefully at home after a long courageous battle with cancer, and supported by the love of his family, on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. Born in 1961 in Manchester, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Clinton N Greene and is survived by his mother Barbara A Greene (Swanson), from whom he gained his life-long love of reading and learning.
Joe graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1991. Subsequently, he was employed by the State of New York as a cartographer, a career that reflected his respect for the environment and allowed him to share his gift for design. Most recently, his eye for detail and entrepreneurial spirit prompted him to establish Greene Overhead Door, which secured and enhanced the homes of many loyal Capital Region customers for over 25 years.
When at home, Joe was rejuvenated by picturesque views of the Hudson River, which he enjoyed from the vantage points of his boat, back porch and his artfully landscaped, rolling backyard. A historophile, Joes sense of adventure was at the heart of all of his favorite activities away from home. Century cycling events, elaborate (and sometimes unconventional) family vacations, railbuff excursions, baseball games, concerts and attendance at theater productions both inspired Joe and made him interesting company.
True to the lyrics he quoted, "Seventy-six trombones hit the counterpointI modestly took my place as the one and only bass," Joe celebrated the individuality of friends and family members and energetically supported their interests with his talents. There was no Halloween haunted house plan too involved or stage set too complicated for Joe to take on.
The precious memories Joe created were encouraged by the love, boundless energy, and loyal devotion of his wife of 30 years and true companion, Virginia M. (Lewis). They will be preserved and treasured by his children Sharon Greene and Clinton Greene, who were a source of pride and laughter for their father. Joes outsized influence will also continue to be felt by siblings Ellen (Bill) Burkhard of Delmar, Kristen(Graeme) Greene of KaPaa HI, William (Rene) Greene of Belmont VT, John (Bonnie) Greene of Aurora CO, sister-in-law Sarah Nagy (Lewis) of Clifton Park, several nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. Joe was also preceded by his eldest sister Mary (Glen) Endre of Harrington ME.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial mass celebrating Joes life on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church in Albany, preceded by a calling hour from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the chapel.
