Obituary

Josef Charles Mueller, Jr. of Colonial Road passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Albany Medical Center. He was 86. Born in Boston on November 22, 1927, Joe is the oldest son of the late Josef Charles, Sr. and Cornelia (MacLeod) Mueller. Joe grew up in Jamaica Plain, Mass. He attended Boston Latin School, where he consistently earned Approbations with Distinction and played Tackle on the football team. He then enrolled in the Army, initially taking courses at Norwich University until he turned 18. He served two years in the Army during WWII. He entered Harvard University and completed his Bachelors of Science Organic Chemistry in 1952 after only 3 years. Joe was an avid supporter of Methodist youth groups and even worked for the New England Home for Little Wanderers. Joe also worked for Carters Ink Company. Joe married his best friend, the former Priscilla Harling, on June 29, 1963, and shortly thereafter moved to Stillwater and started their family. Over the years, Priscilla and Joe had 5 biological children and 14 foster children. Joe worked as a Research Chemist for Norton Company for 30 years. He holds 3 patents. Joe was active in the community as a Little League coach, a Board Member for the Stillwater Central School district, a Sunday School Teacher, and a Trustee for the Stillwater United Church. Joe was an avid gardener, reader, bridge player, and chess player. Upon retirement, Joe worked at Bryce Real Estate. Joe continued his passion for sports watching his children and grandchildren play sports and watching his son Jon coach the U of Albany baseball team. Joe was frequently on the sidelines, both at home and on the road. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by two siblings Alan Mueller and Ralph Mueller, and two sons, Daniel Eliot Mueller and Erik Alan Mueller. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Priscilla Harling Mueller, his sister, Cornelia M. Hopkins, sons, Josef C. (Linda) Mueller, Andrew D. (Kathy Wiesmore) Mueller, and Jonathan P. (Patricia) Mueller, daughter-in-law Eva Mueller, Tammy (Steve) Gori, and several other foster children. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, 11 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 1PM on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Stillwater United Church, Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. Burial with military honors will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
