Sheldon, John Kenneth Jr. Valley Falls, Rensselaer County John Kenneth Sheldon, Jr., 73, of Valley Falls, NY died surrounded by his loving family after an arduous battle with cancer. Mr. Sheldon was born and raised in Latham, having graduated Watervliet High School in 1962. He knew he wanted to lead a life helping other people and spent eight years in the Coast Guard and 45 years in the Valley Falls Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Sheldon is retired from working on train engines at Amtrak. He is predeceased by his father, John K. Sheldon, Sr., a WWII Pacific Theater veteran and Maeda Dupree, housewife. He is also predeceased by his son, Stephen John Sheldon and his beloved wife Jessie Ann Roberts Sheldon. He is survived by his brother, Daniel C. Sheldon of Northville, his daughter Sandra Sheldon Destler of Delaware, two nephews, Dan and Doug Sheldon and one niece, Debra Sheldon. Relatives and friends may call from 11am-1pm on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Hoosic Valley Community Church, Schaghticoke. Funeral service will be at 1:00pm in the church. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
