Obituary

John D. Morgan of River Road in Johnsonville passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at his residence after a long illness. He was 86. Born at home in Johnsonville on January 1, 1925, he was a son of the late Walter John and Elizabeth Henrietta (Phillips) Morgan and twin brother of the late Andrew Morgan. John was the companion of Rose Salisbury for 51 years. John attended Hoosick Falls High School in 1941 and served in the US Army April 1946-May 1947. He was assigned to the Medical Corps transporting wounded troops from Bremer Haven, Germany to New York City. John worked for the Cooks Farm, the B&M Railroad and then retired January 1987 from the NYS Dept. of Transportation where he was a laborer, truck driver and crew foreman. John was a member of the Powamppokonk Fish and Game Club. He is survived by a daughter, Joan Salisbury of Johnsonville and a grandson, Anthony Westbrook of Johnsonville. Also, his brother William H. (Helen) Morgan of Melrose, Calvin (Jane) Morgan of Troy, Henrietta Lewis of Glens Falls and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and twin brother, he is predeceased by his brothers Jay, Clayton, George, Chauncey, Junius and Joseph Morgan. Relatives and friends may call from 8:45-9:45am on Thursday, October 20 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke (753-4511). Funeral Mass will follow at 10am at the Transfiguration Parish, Main St., Schaghticoke with Rev. George Fleming, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Johns Cemetery.
