Miller, John Joseph - Saratoga Springs, Saratoga County John Joseph Miller died at home in Saratoga Springs, NY., at the age of 83. Born in Marion, OH, John was the eldest son of the late Alois F. and Anna Mae (Knight) Miller. He was a graduate of Saint Joseph Catholic High School of Ironton, OH and the University Cincinnati College of Electrical Engineering. After a long successful career he retired from General Electric, headquartered in Schenectady NY. He was preceded by one grandson Scott Guberman and two step-grandchildren Fiona Doyle and Brian Doyle. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law Suzan M. (Henry) Guberman and Bernadette Miller; four sons and daughters- in- law John A. (Martha) Miller, Joseph M. (Marilyn) Miller, Francis I. Miller, Bernard (Ginnie) Miller. Grandchildren include James Guberman, John Guberman, Tadeus Miller, Evan Miller, Sophie Miller and Walter Miller. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, October 13th at St Joseph Catholic Church with Father David Huffman officiating. He was buried at the Calvary Cemetery in Coal Grove, OH. John was very proud of the work he did working for GE at Cape Kennedy, Florida. He was lead engineer on the hydrogen system that powered the 2nd and 3rd stages of the Saturn 5 rocket which launched the Apollo spacecraft to fulfill President Kennedys national goal of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth. Later, still working for General Electric at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna, NY, he worked on the development of naval propulsion systems and reactor cores. John was an outdoorsman who taught his children to ski, ice skate, scuba dive, to love boating, and to recognize the plants, trees and animals of the world. He also loved music, reading, and the birds that flew to his feeder in his back yard. The time of year he loved the most was every Memorial Day weekend when the entire Miller family held its annual picnic in Ironton, Ohio. His family was the most important treasure of his life.
