John George Hayes, Sr., passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Samaritan Hospital with loving family at his side. He was 85.

Born in Troy on November 25, 1938, son of the late John J. and Ida (Deragon) Hayes. He is the husband of Carole J. (Lovely) Hayes to whom he was married for 65 years.

A farmer at heart, John loved being on his mower or tractor or just talking about farm equipment. Advice was given, whether you wanted it or not. John worked in various jobs and above all, he wanted to help people. If he met you once, you were a friend. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors in addition to his wife Carole include his children, John G. "Jack" (Michaelena) Hayes, Shawn Hayes, Kelly Doty (Ernie Mollnow) and Michael (Pamela) Hayes. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his daughter Dawn Ida Hayes, a grandson, Joshua Hayes and his brothers William Hayes and Joseph Hayes.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 4-7:00pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 22 Bridge Street, Johnsonville. A funeral service will be conducted at 11am on Wednesday, June 26 in the church with burial to follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Schenectady.
