Valley Falls Joan M. Rafferty of State Street passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peters Hospital. She was 76. Mrs. Rafferty was born on April 30, 1935 in Boston, MA, daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Nortwich) Sellman. On October 23, 1954 she married her husband Francis. Joan was a devoted wife and mother, raising their 6 children and managing the office of the former Scriven Duplicating Service in Valley Falls, which Mr. and Mrs. Rafferty purchased in 1965. Today the family business continues in Speigletown, operated by her family. Survivors in addition to her husband Francis include her children; Colleen (John) Allsop of Clifton Park, Michael (Michele) Rafferty of Cohoes, Donna (Eric) Moore of Schaghticoke, Kevin (Vicki) Rafferty and Brian (Billie Jo) Rafferty both of Valley Falls and Lynn (Craig) Wilson of Schaghticoke, her 9 beloved grandchildren; Michael (Jenn) Rafferty, Ann-Marie (Chris) Glover, Valerie Rafferty, Aimee, Becca and Joe Moore, Nolan and William Rafferty and Jonathan Wilson, 4 great grandchildren, Rylee Rafferty, Carson, Grant and Chase Glover as well as her sisters-in-law, Teresa Nielsen, Doris Ehrlich and Aggie McLaughlin and several nieces, nephews and cousins and her dog, Squirt and cat Willow. Relatives and friends may call from 2-6pm on Sunday, November 13 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke (753-4511). Funeral Mass will be conducted at 9:30 on Monday, November 14 at St. Augustine Parish, 25 115th Street, Troy. Burial will follow in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Joans family would like to extend their thanks to the Critical Care Unit and the Community Hospice staff, nurses and doctors at St. Peters Hospital that cared for Joan and her family during this difficult time.
