Obituary

Melrose, Rensselaer Co. James I. Fisk, Sr., of Pineview Place passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was 79. Born on May 1, 1933 in Troy, son of the late Earl and Mildred (Inglis) Fisk. He is the husband of Alice Connally Fisk of Melrose, NY. Jim and Alice would have been married 53 years on November 21. Father of James I. Fisk, Jr., (Veronica) of Cohoes, NY, and Carrie F. Rudebush (Dean) of Schaghticoke, NY. Predeceased by daughter Alison Urzan of Troy, NY. Grandfather of Meaghan H. Davis (Ben) of Schaghticoke, NY, Michael T. Lefebvre of Melrose, NY, and Andrew J. Fisk of South Glens Falls, NY. Great-grandfather of Rileigh Alison Davis of Schaghticoke. Also survived by son-in-law Walter P. Urzan of Troy, NY, Predeceased by sisters Virginia Harriman of Debary, FL., and Thelma Whitcomb of Fort Myer, FL. Also predeceased by brother Thomas, Donald and Haley Fisk. He retired from the Bendix Corporation in Green Island (now Honeywell) after 23 years. He was a graduate of Heatly High School in Green Island, NY and an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy. A 1958 graduate of New York State Police School, Troy, NY 58th Session, he was a former police officer in the Village of Green Island and a Constable in the Village of Schaghticoke, NY. Lifetime Member and former Assistant Chief of the Melrose Fire Department and Captain of the Fire Police. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion Post in Schaghticoke, NY. Well-known area drummer, he played with various musical groups in the area for over 60 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing drums, and camping in the Adirondacks. Relatives and friends may call from 4-7pm on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke (753-4511). Funeral service will be conducted at 10am on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flower contributions, "In Memory of Alison Fisk Urzan" may be made to the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, Office of the Recording Secretary, 124 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA 02138 (Please make checks out to: "President and Fellows of Harvard College".)
