Irene D. Brust (Carknard), passed away at her home peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday July 26th, 2023. She was 90 years old, born on October 4th, 1932. She was a lifelong resident of Valley Falls. Anyone that met Irene said they were blessed to know her and be apart of her life, they also know that she dedicated her life to her family. When she was younger she loved bowling and was on a league that earned her accomplishments that she's always been proud of. She loved a good bargain at the store or a yard sale, and would buy anything that was a good deal even if she didn't need it. She loved to play cards and dice with family and friends. She enjoyed going to penny socials and basket raffles. Another big passion of hers was bingo. She loved to test her luck at the Saratoga racino. She loved to watch her soap operas and game shows. She will forever cherish all the family camping trips to Lake Champlain. She loved hosting Sunday family dinners and holiday family dinners. Her baking and cooking will never compare to any others. Nothing will ever taste as good as hers, especially her homemade recipes, like her spaghetti sauce, pie crust, and many many others, she had the special touch. She leaves behind her children David Brust, Gerald Brust, Terry Brust, John Brust, Tracey Brust, and Michael (Rebecca) Brust. She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband of 57 years Ronald W. Brust. She is also predeceased by her sons Gerry Brust and Ronald E. Brust, her mother Ethel Sickler-Carknard, and her grandson Thomas Brust. She is thankful for her granddaughter Marissa that was her caretaker for the last 6 years. Irene will be deeply missed and always remembered as the heart of the family. "Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as god calls us one by one the chain will link again." A private service was held at her home for the family. Burial will be graveside at Elmwood Cemetery in Schaghticoke, NY, on July 31st, 2023 at approximately 12:30 in the afternoon.
