Obituary

Mechanicville - Saratoga County Helen Eva (Speanburg) Oliver passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at her granddaughter's residence with her loving family at her side. She was 91. Born on August 21, 1922 in Valley Falls, daughter of the late Earl and Eva (Cross) Speanburg. During World War II, Helen worked 7 days a week for Behr Manning in Watervliet while her husband, the late William C. Oliver served in the armed forces as a Bombardier overseas. After her employment during the war, she worked as a mail clerk at Geier and Blum in Troy. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Oliver Cook Wolnerman of Mechanicville, granddaughters Kelly Cook Rost and Kari Cook, both of Clifton Park as well as her great-grandchildren, Paige Russell, Tyler Fribourg, Ethan Fribourg and Nathaniel Rost and her brother, Earl (Jean) Speanburg, Jr. of Johnsonville as well as several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to nephew Steven and wife Laurie Speanburg for their special care for Helen in her final days. Helen is predeceased by her brothers, Duane Speanburg, Kenneth Speanburg, KIA WWII, Donald Speanburg and Richard Speanburg, her nephews Jon Speanburg and Chad Speanburg and her cousin and best friend Jean Hillman. Relatives and friends may call from 5-8pm on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. Funeral service will be conducted at 10am on Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke.
