Obituary

Troy, Rensselaer County Grace Elizabeth Carlson completed her earthly assignment and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 8, 2022. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut on August 5, 1936 to the late Helmer and Grace Reeve Carlson. Grace grew up and was educated in Connecticut until the family moved to Schaghticoke in 1952. She graduated from Hoosic Valley Central School in 1954 and later in life attended Hudson Valley Community College. She held several jobs during her life including work as an administrative assistant at both RPI and Ludlow Valve in Troy, customer service representative at Troy Bilt Rototiller in Lansingburgh, server and administrative assistant for the Restaurant Workers Union of the Capital District in Saratoga Springs and pharmacy assistant at Rite Aid in Schaghticoke, from where she retired in 2009. Grace was a host parent for the Fresh Air Fund, welcoming children from New York City into her home in the summertime. She loved horses, gardening and cooking dinner for family and friends. In her early adult years, she was a gifted artist, specializing in oil painting. In 1986, Grace received Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord and rededicated her life to Him in 2019. She was a member of Walking The Walk Christian Center in Albany until the time of her departure from this earth. She is survived by three sons, Matthew Johnson, Jr. of Waterford; Mark Johnson and his wife Brenda of Boyntonville; Gregory Johnson and his wife Tiffney of Troy, one daughter Lainie Johnson and her fianc Richard Geddis of Schaghticoke, her grandchildren Craig Johnson and his wife Adrienne, Caitlin Lobdell and her husband Donnie, Connor Johnson and his fiance Mary Passineau, Bailey Johnson and her fianc Michael Domey and Hunter Johnson and her fianc Ian Anderson, her great grandchildren Max, Faye, Levi, Mackenzie, Jax and Kane; one brother Pastor Ed Carlson and his wife Pastor Mary Carlson of Albany, one sister Joan Walker Ronald and her husband Robert Ronald of Ingleside, Ontario, Canada and Bradenton, Florida and special friends Matthew and Maureen Cinadr of Clifton Park and Betteanne Dougherty of Clifton Park. Grace is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Grace was predeceased by her brother Robert Carlson, brother-in-law Richard Walker, great nephew Lee Walker, niece Renee Heuther and dear friends Mary Keyes and Mary Ann Matala. For those who were close to her, she will be remembered for her joyful sense of humor, her hearty laugh, her gifted conversation, her direct way of speaking and her loving, caring and affirming ways. She dealt with many challenges in her life and was a great fighter through all of them. The family would like to recognize the nurses Samantha and Andrea for their ultimate compassion and care for Grace during her home stretch. Visitation will be on Friday August 12, 2022 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Hoosic Valley Community Church, 2024 NY Route 40 in Schaghticoke. Memorial Service will follow the visitation.
