In Loving Memory of George W. Harrison

George Walter Harrison, a beloved husband, father, son, and brother, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. George leaves behind a legacy defined by an unwavering devotion to his family, his faith, and his community.

Born on October 18, 1946, in Elmira, NY, he was the cherished son of the late George and Eleanor (Harder) Harrison, and the deeply loved brother of the late Edward Harrison.

The true cornerstone of George's life was his fifty-five-year love story with his best friend, marrying on January 2, 1971. A proud and dedicated father, George's greatest joy was watching his children grow. He pursued his higher education at Kent State University and Elmira College, earning degrees that helped shape his personal and professional journey. George served his country with honor in the US Air Force, receiving his honorable discharge. He later channeled his passion for guiding youth into his career as a Facility Director for the NYS Office of Children and Family Services. George was an active Rotarian and a faithful servant of God; as a dedicated parishioner of St. Joseph Church in New Paltz, NY. He served gracefully as an Eucharistic Minister and was heavily involved with the CYO. More recently, he brought his warmth and faith to the parish of Corpus Christi, Round Lake, NY.

George's love for his family was beautifully evident in the years he spent coaching youth baseball and basketball. He was never prouder than when he was on the sidelines coaching his own children, teaching them not just the game, but the values of sportsmanship, dedication, and heart.

His profound love lives on in his survivors: his beloved wife, Virginia Marie Harrison; his cherished children, Zachary (Evon) Harrison and Olivia Harrison, who carry forward their father's clarity, abundance and joy; and his adored grandchildren, Kylee (Jack) Griffin, Jacob Claypool, and Emma Claypool, who brought immense light and happiness. He is also survived by his dear cousin, Claudia (David) Webber; his brother-in-law, John (Carol) Miller; and his nieces, Kristen, Lisa, and Elizabeth.

George is reunited in eternal peace with his parents and his brother, Edward Harrison.

Services for Mr. Harrison will be private and at the convenience of his family, with military honors at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Please join us in celebrating a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories from 3:00 - 6:00pm on Friday, June 12, 2026, at The Fairways of Halfmoon Clubhouse.
