Gary I. Carpenter, born on June 30, 1955, peacefully passed on January 29, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late Charles M. Carpenter and Shirley A. Brewster of Stillwater attended and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1973. He then went to work for Tagsons Papers Inc. and Momentive, formerly General Electric where he was employed for over 30 years. Gary is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Kathleen M. Carpenter and survived by his son, Matthew Carpenter, his daughter, Kelly (Dave) Carpenter and his grandsons, Jacob Carpenter, David Kramek Jr., and Matthew Kramek. Survivors also include his partner, Kathy Starks, his sisters, Gail (Ray) Moore, Gina (Tim) Bromirski and Geri (Joe) DeMarco. Gary is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews. Gary, born and raised in Stillwater, was a notable athlete. He played football, basketball, baseball and ran track. He took great pride in his many athletic accomplishments and was recently inducted into Stillwaters Class of 2021 Athletic Hall of Fame. Gary went on to coach both baseball and softball for his son, Matt and daughter, Kelly and never missed the chance to root his grandsons on from the stands. He was a member of the American Legion Post 490 and was an avid New York Jets and New York Yankees fan. Garys happiest times were spent with his family, vacationing in Hampton Beach, with his wife at the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival and with friends, cruising the Hudson River on his boat. Gary loved to spend his summers soaking up the sun by his pool and his winters on the beaches of Anna Maria Island, Florida. Gary will long be remembered by his family and friends for his generosity, athleticism, and his love of all things sports. A prayer service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 4 at Chase-Smith Funeral Homes, Stillwater with burial to follow at St. Peters Cemetery.
